Abstract

Jumpstart to Writing is an interactive multimedia-learning tool for students in grade through 1 to 5. The purpose of this software is to help students learn to write through a step by step process which provides "scaffolds" (Vygotsky) in the form of topic generation grids, graphic organizers and paragraph frames. Although structure is apparent in the software, students have many choices in terms of topics, modes of writing, word usage and revision strategies. The software is an online writing process tool. Through using this tool, students should be able to produce pieces of writing that are well organized, incorporate a variety of literary devices, and are presented in an attractive format that includes graphics of their choosing.
